Green Street Butchers: The Best Grab-and-Go Lunch in Bath

If you’re visiting Bath for the day, chances are your itinerary is packed. Between exploring the Roman Baths, snapping photos at Pulteney Bridge, and hunting for Bridgerton filming locations, the last thing you want is to spend hours at a sit-down restaurant. But it’s not just tourists who love this place—locals know Green Street Butchers as a reliable spot for a quick, high-quality bite, whether it’s a lunch break, a snack on the go, or just avoiding the crowds at busy restaurants. It’s a gem tucked away on Green Street, offering one of the best grab-and-go options in the city.

Full Meat Selection too!

Quick, Quality, and Delicious

For a lunchtime bite, their chicken sandwich is unbeatable. Juicy, succulent chicken is cooked right in front of you on rows of rotating spits, filling the air with that mouthwatering smell of cooking chicken. The rolls are the perfect balance of crunch and softness, providing a sturdy yet flavorful base for the chicken, and you can choose from shallots and rocket, garlic mayo, and plain mayo too. My go to is the shallots and rocket! At £8.50, it’s not the cheapest option around, but it’s miles ahead of fast food and trust me, it’ll keep you full as you wander the city’s streets—and it’s worth every penny for the quality. I even took my Mum there before our train to London and she loved it!

The Chicken Sandwich in all its (half-eaten) Glory

If you’re stopping by for breakfast, I can’t recommend the bacon, sausage, and egg muffin enough. On my last visit, I decided to skip the sausage patty and go simple with just bacon and egg(There were no patty’s ready and I was cutting it fine with the breakfast cut off of 11am). While waiting, the staff kindly offered to add the patty once it was ready as it wouldn’t actually be long—and at no extra charge. Those little touches of customer service go a long way. It’s the kind of attention to detail that makes you want to come back, spread the word, and write a blog on the place!

Great Service, Worth the Wait

Speaking of service, I have found it consistently friendly and welcoming. Yes, it can sometimes be a little slow during busy periods, but the wait is always worth it. Watching your food being freshly prepared while the smell of roasting chicken fills the shop is all part of the experience.

More Than Just a Sandwich Spot

Green Street Butchers isn’t just about sandwiches—they’re a fully functioning butcher’s shop too. While I haven’t yet explored their selection, I’ve heard great things, and I’m planning to check it out soon. It’s nice to know that beyond a quick bite, they offer high-quality cuts of meat for anyone looking to cook at home.

Final Thoughts

So, whether you’re grabbing a breakfast muffin before starting your sightseeing or picking up a chicken sandwich to refuel during the day, Green Street Butchers is a must-visit. The food is fresh, flavorful, and filling, the service is good, and the quality beats anything you’ll find at a chain restaurant.

For a grab-and-go spot in the heart of Bath that really delivers, with a local touch, it’s a solid 5 stars from me. Don’t waste your time sitting down when you could grab something delicious and keep exploring this city.

So, the only question left is: Breakfast muffin or lunchtime chicken sandwich? All depends what time you get there I suppose, but don’t leave it too late, these sell out, and rightly so!
